Sonic Thrills with SVS at Gramophone

Here at Gramophone, we sure had fun with the hard-working team from SVS at our Columbia, MD location this past week. SVS’ new flagship line of speakers is the Ultra Evolution Series, the finest speakers SVS has ever introduced.

SVS President Gary Yacoubian brought his team to Gramophone to introduce and play the new products at a special event for 110 of our customers, and if you’re a music and movie lover, it was a great evening. Gary was joined by Larry McGough, National Training Manager; Nick Brown, VP of Marketing; and Ken Kadis, Director of Sales.

The product information in the presentations was supported with a combination of music videos and movie demos of how the new speakers actually sound. Great songs and movie clips are where the rubber meets the road. We were wowed by the home theater demos from the Ultra Evolution Titan and SB16-Ultra subwoofer system, as well as two-channel systems based around the Ultra Evolution Pinnacle and Ultra Evolution Bookshelf.

Especially amazing was a music video performance on the big home theater system of “Shallow” from A Star is Born, with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Other highlights were from Spider-Man: Far From Home; Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation; and Hans Zimmer - Live in Prague.

SVS Ultra Evolution Series is not simply an upgrade to their prior flagship speakers. Ultra Evolution re-sets the bar, representing a big leap forward in realistic and convincing audio performance vs. their prior efforts. In every way, these new speakers are different from what came before. As SVS says, Ultra Evolution “… represents the culmination of SVS breakthroughs in driver design, component materials, and cabinet architecture”.

Acoustically centered time alignment enhances our ability to hear a cohesive, uniform, and well-defined sonic image from our two-channel stereo or home theater system. We want to hear the performers play music as they would sound in a jazz or blues club, or our local symphony, rather than hearing it as sound from two stereo speakers, or a home theater system.

By changing the cabinet architecture, and curving the front and back panels of the speakers, SVS has changed the point of sonic emanation from the tweeter and mid-range drivers so that they are physically lined up. Their sounds arrive at our ears cohesively, and the performers sound as though they are playing together.

The new diamond carbon-coated aluminum dome tweeters, force-balanced woofer arrays in the three tower speakers, and reworked crossover networks all help to bring home the realism we experienced in the listening sessions.

SVS even sponsored a giveaway segment. Several lucky winners took home an SVS Micro 3000 subwoofer; a Prime Wireless Pro Audio System; a complete system consisting of a pair of Evolution Bookshelf speakers, a Prime Wireless Pro streaming amplifier, and the appropriate cabling; plus SoundPath Subwoofer Isolation feet, Wireless Adapters, cabling, T-shirts, and other goodies.

All in all, our employees and consumers agreed that this was one of the most fun events we have had in quite a while. We’d love to see you, so please call us to arrange an audition of SVS products at our Timonium, Columbia, and Gaithersburg Showrooms, and enjoy your own demo of the new SVS flagship speakers at Gramophone. We promise you’ll be glad you did!
